ASSIST

Aroha Social and Sustainable Initiatives Serving Tāmaki Makaurau

In 2021, we have put this programme in place to guide us in setting goals in social and sustainability practices.

Our entire business model is based on natural funeral practices, including the avoidance of embalming wherever possible. See our eco-friendly practices page for more information.

We have joined Sustainable Business Network, partnered with Trees for Survival, and record carbon emissions using Carbon Click calculator.

We can connect our families with organisations for organ and tissue donation.
We support local businesses and charities.

Trees for Survival

Trees for Survival is a charitable trust which works with schools and local communities to grow and plant native trees along waterways and on erosion prone hillsides.

We support a local school (Papakura Normal) with their tree planting days. For 2021 we have helped them plant 975 native plants.

We donate $6 per cremation to TFS which offsets the carbon emissions created by each cremation. TFS uses this donation to plant a tree for each cremation.

The CarbonClick calculator shows our business emissions are 8.39 tonnes of CO2 in 2020 – the breakdown of these is shown below. This is a starting point, and we will continue to measure these, and reduce emissions where possible.
