Shirley

Funeral Director

I’m new to Aroha, but my appetite for this work was first whetted 25 years ago when I worked in a hospice in the UK. Journeying alongside families in their toughest times is, to me, a sacred space. I’m eager to apply my life experience and knowledge to the important role of helping families navigate their final goodbyes.

I hold a BA in Applied Theology and a Certificate in Celebrancy. As both a marriage and funeral celebrant, I understand the joy and value of connecting with each family, ensuring that the grief journey becomes a fitting celebration of your loved one.

I’m the proud mother of two adult children and a 16-year-old son with high medical needs. My personal experiences with the healthcare system have given me a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges that come with raising a child with complex needs. I’m also privileged to serve on the Board of The Kids Foundation, where I work to advocate for families.

In my free time, I love being involved in musical theatre and serve on the Board of Toitoi Collective – an indigenous creative arts hub.
