Our service doesn't stop at the end of the funeral

Grief doesn’t follow a timetable, and neither does our care. At Aroha Funerals, we continue to support you well beyond the day of the service — offering gentle, practical guidance through our partnership with The Grief Centre. Whether you’re seeking information, counselling, or simply a listening ear, help is here when you need it most.

Around six to eight weeks after the funeral, one of their team will reach out with kind guidance and useful resources. This includes:

Informational materials to help you understand the grief process
One complimentary counselling session with a qualified grief counsellor
Further referrals or resources if needed

Spending Time With Your Loved One

Spending time with your loved one after death can be a meaningful step in the healing process. We support families who wish to:

Spend time in a private farewell
Assist in dressing – a final act of love and care
Keep your loved one at home for a short time before the service

We’ll guide you through these options with care and respect, ensuring everything is handled safely and in accordance with your wishes and traditions.

Understanding Grief

Grief is a deeply personal journey, and there’s no single way to move through it. How you grieve can depend on who you’ve lost, the circumstances, your coping style, and your cultural background.

There’s no “right” way – your experience is valid, whatever it looks or feels like.

Supporting Children Through Grief

Children experience loss differently, and involving them in gentle, age-appropriate ways can help them feel included and secure. We encourage open conversations and can offer ideas such as lighting a candle, sharing a favourite memory, or helping with small parts of the service.
